Marriage wasn’t in my card for sure, however I couldn’t refuge my darling mom and my step dad.
Let me tell you the story from the beginning, my great-grandma, she married a married man, simple because her mother had 10 kids, and therefor just couldn’t look after them! So my great grand ma’s mom decided to merry her off without thinking twitch was the age of the man suitable for my great grandma? Was he already married? Or was he a loser?. This is where I guess the curse started. She was the eldest, therefor, her parents were in hurry to merry her off. This is back in 1900. I think! After marriage, she found out that, he is 30 years old, and she simply, 14. Age gap. I wonder how she managed to have 7 kids! My great grand pa, passed way soon after the 7th child. Along with him he also took 4 of his child, to haven I hope. Now the story comes to my grandma. Only 13, no father, eldest daughter, she wondered maybe if she marries her off soon, maybe my grandmas husband house can support them financially. So my great grandma went on her mission to find a groom for her eldest daughter.
The next bit, I found it hard to digest, she was married off to a 31 years old man. Well my grandma become mentally Ill soon after the marriage and she decided to run way. I wish I was alive to curse my great grandma. Anyway, I am glad she escaped, otherwise how would my have come to this picture.
My great grandma, than decided to merry my nan again at the age of 17. To my grand dad. Age 65. This shocked me beyond. My grandad was 65 web he married my nan. I wonder do they still have sperm?
Little shocking, yes, very. I turned my mum after, the eldest again. 3rd generation lady, born in 70. I wondered was my nan like that to? But than I found out, my grandad was very rich, and he left enough property for my mum and my only uncle. My nan only had two kids, because soon after he passed way.
My mum, luckily she broke the curse of marrying elderly man but married an idiot. However, in each female, of I told you had one thing in common… From my great great grandma- to my great grandma- to my grandma and lastly to my mother, is that, they never have experienced love. Love is something that never was in there card. My heart thumps when I still here my 3 grandmas story. The eldest daughter of the house. Curse is still there, a curse never to e loved. & today, looking at my self at the mirror, wearing a bridle dress, in red. I wonder, is the curse still there?
Geet sadly smiled at her self. Taking a shy breath, she looked up again. The eldest daughter of the 4th generation. Should she be proud? Or sad? Marriage she always feared. To avoid any financial difficulty or in near future if she had to rely on her husband, to avoid this, she now a medical student, in uk. Now would her great grand maa thought of this 100 years back, in a small unknown town of India. British India. Geet corrected her self.
She sat back on her chair, her 3 grandma always dreamer of big wedding affair & with bad luck, nun of them lucky enough to see them self or there daughter in bridal dress, except Geets mum. Rano. Rano ran way to merry off Geets dad, who left her after few years for another lady. Luckily Geets grandma just couldn’t through the oldest daughter with her grand daughter, so for new beginning, she arranged Geets mum to leave India and move to England.
Geets thought came out of her past to the present. She only saw Maan’s photo. In India she wasn’t allowed to see the groom before wedding, apparently it’s bad luck. He looked near her age. Geet thought. & to fulfill Geets grandmas last wish to see her grand daughter in bridal avatar, to merry her of with a grant party with a grant man, Geet just couldn’t refuge. 3rd year in medicine and now already planned to be marries off. Geet wondered, how would her class mate, her best school mate would react, once she return to England.
Geet sadly looked at her self. She is not ready for this marriage, an top of it, she is not ready for to met this man name Maan. She knew well, he won’t love her. She barely knows him… And the curse, she wondered, is she gn be err loved? Find a husband who madly loves her?
Rano and Geets grandma walked in with little tears, wishing, maybe the family curse that is passed on to there oldest daughter maybe lifted. Geet will be saved. Maan is the perfect soul mate for her. They just didn’t chose any man for her like there parents did, they have found Maan out of thousands, and his parents happens to be ready for his marriage to.
Marriage took place within few hours and before Geet knew, she was crying and waving the last goodbye to enter her new house. She knew minimum about the man who was sitting next to her. She was also having hard time to digest that living up abroad and now having arranged marriage something she never thought off was ridiculous. She looked at Maan now and than, he looked alright from the sight, not that bad looking. All Geet knew was he have variety of business. Someone like business tycoon but his favorite one is few production house he owns in film industry. Bollywood! Geet guessed.
She didn’t talk throughout the 39 minute journey. She had no energy to be fair. She was expecting more of sex-child relationship. That’s what her family have went through, well at-least the eldest daughter. One positive thing, she felt relived as she took the curse way with her, because she surly couldn’t see her brother and sister with this sad curse.
Geet was welcomed in to her husbands grand house with enormous amount of congratulation. She barely understood some as they spoke in pure Hindi. She looked to her mother in law for some help or her husband who barely showed any concern. He soon left her with the crowed, to his room maybe. Geet smiled way with minimal talk of strong Hindi accent.
‘can you speak Hindi? Pure Hindi?’ few girl giggled and laughed.
‘I hard you are a medical student?, don’t you think it’s tough to be married in middle of your study?’
Geet kept mum. Because its summer holiday and she had good 2 months off where one and half month went in this wedding fisco. Geet nodes gently, to be pilot.
Geets mother in law, who’s name she do not know, never bothered to ask, but now she is doubting her thoughts.
‘leave my daughter in law alone!’ she defended Geet. ‘it’s time for her to see the new room.’
Geet was carried way by many females to her new room, which actually had more than one room. One room leading to another, they pushed her in and locked the door outside. The room was empty, and so was the next and the next. One was sitting room Geet guesses another with king size bed, another two that lead to wardrobe, and another to bathroom. Geet silently sat at one of the red oval sofa. Whole room was decorated with red and white rose. Her first weeding night.
She wasn’t ready for consuming this marriage. Nor she wanted to sleep with this man, name Maan, who is her husband and have every right to touch her, But, he brings no feeling in her, let alone any other! Geet quickly walked towards the cupboard, and hurried off with her cloths to the bathroom, she quickly got changed, but still took 30 minute and silently walked out, to avoid Maan. He was still no where to be seen! Geet took a shy relief, and quickly made her self comfortable to be fast sleep. ‘it’s only one week, until you are home! Just one week!’ she told her self. Her university was due to start in two weeks and she have to be there by next week, for early arrangement and if she can avoid having …….. with him for one week, maybe, well, about 4 months off from him. Geet smiled to her self. That’s good! Hai na.
